Celtics Sign Guard Vander Blue To 10-Day Contract

BOSTON (CBS) - In need of some depth at the guard position, the Boston Celtics have signed guard Vander Blue to a 10-day contract, the team announced on Wednesday.

The 6-5 Blue appeared in four games for the Delaware 87ers of the NBA Development League this season, averaging 19.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 30.5 minutes per game. In his last game with the 87ers on January 20, Blue scored 35 points in 39 minutes on 11-of-23 shooting from the floor and 11-of-16 shooting from the free throw line.

Prior to joining the 87ers this season, Blue played in seven games for Maccabi Rishon Le Zion in Israel where he averaged 11.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.7 assists.

An undrafted free agent in 2013, Blue was an All-Big East Second Team member during his junior season at Marquette University where he averaged 14.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists.

Blue is the second player to sign a 10-day contract with the Celtics over the last week. Boston also signed guard/forward Chris Johnson to a 10-day contract on Friday, who scored 11 points in his Celtics debut Tuesday night in Boston's loss to the Miami Heat.
