Boston Mayor-Elect Picks Arroyo As Health Chief

BOSTON (AP) — Boston Mayor-elect Marty Walsh has named Felix G. Arroyo as the city's next chief of health and human services and has chosen two people to serve on the Boston School Committee.

Walsh announced Arroyo's appointment Sunday.

Arroyo has been a city councilor at-large since 2010. He previously was an organizer and political director at Local 615 of the Service Employees International Union and was New England field director for Healthcare for America Now. He also was co-chair of Walsh's transition team. Arroyo's father is former City Councilor Felix D. Arroyo.

Walsh is also appointing Boston University professor Hardin Coleman and attorney Michael Loconto to the School Committee. He plans to announce those appointments Monday after he is sworn in as mayor.
