Daily Talker: Vending Machine Calories

Something new will be coming to vending machines starting in 2014: calorie information.

As part of the Affordable Care Act, companies that operate 20 or more vending machine companies will be required to show the calories next to each snack, similar to information displayed at many chain restaurants. The Food and Drug Administration hopes this will help consumers make healthier choices.

The vending machine industry expects the changes to cost them at least $24 million dollars a year in additional paperwork and lost sales, and will be expensive for small companies with few employees that already work on low profit margins.

How will the display of calorie information affect what you buy at a vending machine? Share your comments below.
