Photo Captures Beverly Man's Final Visit With Dog

BEVERLY (CBS) ---It's a touching photo worth a thousand words -- a photo of a dying man visiting with his dog "Rusty" for the last time.

Since the picture was posted on Reddit Friday afternoon, it has so far received 1,000 comments and millions of shares.

"My friend Mike was diagnosed with cancer in the 8th grade. He was given a 3% chance to survive the first year. Two days ago we found out that after 8 years, the amputation of his leg, and four rounds of cancer that there's now nothing that they can do. This picture was taken by his brother yesterday. I just got back from Mass General and got to say goodbye with a bunch of old friends. He's the bravest guy I've ever met and all he did the entire day was make sure everyone else was okay," the caption read.

In April 2006, two months shy of his 14th birthday, Beverly native Mike Petrosino was diagnosed with metastatic Ewing's Sarcoma.

Ewing's is a rare cancer that attacks soft tissue and bone.

According to a GoFundMe page set up to help with Petrosino's medical costs, the doctors at Mass General Hospital in Boston did not offer much hope at the time but a year later, Petrosino was cancer free.

In 2012, he developed a different form of cancer - Radiation induced Rhabdomyosarcoma.

Now, doctors have told him there is nothing left they can do.

Mike's brother John Petrosino told The Blaze, the moment in the hospital room was one of the most touching moments of his life.

In an update on Reddit, his friend noted he was happy about the positive response.

"I'll be spending all day conveying everyone's kind words to his family," the note said.
