ROCKLAND (CBS) -- A vehicle struck and injured a boy Saturday night, the Rockland Fire Department reported.

At about 7:15 p.m.,  the boy was hit at the intersection of Market and Union streets, public safety officials said. The boy, who is about 8 years old, suffered serious injuries and was taken to South Shore Hospital, the Fire Department reported.

The boy's condition was not available Saturday night.

The boy was with family at the time of the crash, the Fire Department reported, adding no one else was injured and the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash remained on the scene.

A witness at the crash scene told WBZ-TV that the boy was crossing the intersection in a crosswalk with his mother and a child in a stroller. Police cited the driver who hit the boy, the witness said.
