Manchester, NH Police Investigate 5-Year-Old's 'Apparent Self-Inflicted' Shooting

MANCHESTER, NH (CBS) - Police in Manchester, New Hampshire are investigating the circumstances surrounding a shooting that sent a five-year-old boy to the hospital.

Officers say they were called to an apartment on Spruce Street around 2:30 a.m., where they found the five-year-old suffering from what was described as an "apparent self-inflicted" gunshot wound.

The child's mother, who was not identified, and her boyfriend, 28-year-old Sonday Bishop, told officers that the boy somehow managed to get a hold of the .22 caliber handgun that belonged to Bishop and was playing with the gun when he shot himself.

He was taken to Elliot Hospital, where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police have seized the gun involved. They are looking into the incident.

No charges have been filed at this point.
