BOSTON (CBS) – According to a report out of the New York Daily News, the Knicks are desperate to trade Iman Shumpert and are shopping him around to potential suitors.

The player they’re coveting the most is Celtics guard Rajon Rondo. Gresh and Mike Flynn analyzed the possible trade Monday morning.

Rondo hasn’t played since last January, when he tore his ACL in a double overtime loss to the Atlanta Hawks. Rondo is ‘making great progress’ according to Celtics President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge, but he’s yet to be cleared for full contact drills.

At 4-7, but playing a brand of basketball better than most fans and media expected, the Celtics are grinding and working hard under coach Stevens. Their sub .500 record is certainly not for lack of effort, which is why Gresh feels like the C’s should just stand pat.

“Unless they are just blown away by a deal that they can’t refuse, they almost owe it to themselves to see what Rajon Rondo and Brad Stevens can do together for a 25 – 30 game sample. See how it goes, and see if they really do mesh,” said Gresh.

“You know Rondo is going to come back, you might as well let him play a little bit for you before you make a move, or even entertain making a move with Rondo.”

Flynn feels right along those same lines and believes trading Rondo would be pointless unless you’re guaranteed a top three pick in the NBA Lottery, which he thinks is unlikely anyway.
