High Powered Weapons Stolen From FBI SWAT Vehicle In Andover

BOSTON (CBS) – The FBI in Boston is offering a reward for information leading to the recovery of two guns that were stolen from a government vehicle overnight.

The weapons, a Colt M16-A1 Rifle and a HS Precision Series 2000 Sniper Rifle, were stolen from a FBI SWAT vehicle parked at an agent's home in Andover. The guns were stolen sometime between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.

Other items were stolen from parked cars nearby during that time.

FBI Assistant Special Agent In Charge Jeff Sallet would not comment on whether any ammunition was stolen.

"The vehicle was in a residential neighborhood, for the purpose of pre-deployment for an operation today," Sallet told WBZ-TV Thursday evening. Sallet says an internal investigation was immediately launched, but would not comment on the agent's status.

"There are various protocols that we have related to weapon storage and retention," Sallet said. "An internal investigation determines whether the weapons were stored properly. In this case specifically I can't discuss as it is a personnel matter."

A reward of up to $20,000 is being offered for information leading to the recovery of the guns.

Anyone with information should call FBI Boston immediately at 617-742-5533 or Andover Police Department at 978-475-0411.

In a separate incident this week, a bulletproof vest was stolen out of another FBI agent's car. It was later recovered in Boston's South End neighborhood.
