New York Man Nabbed With 1,700 Oxycodone Pills In I-495 Traffic Stop

LITTLETON (CBS) -- An off-duty trooper arrested a New York man Saturday on Interstate 495 in a drug bust that snared about 1,700 oxycodone pills, the Massachusetts State Police reported in a prepared statement.

At about 7:40 a.m., Trooper Ryan Dolan was commuting home from the Athol barracks on I-495 northbound in Littleton, when he stopped a gray Ford van for motor vehicle violations.

Dolan approached van and found, on the floor near where the front passenger had been seated, a large bag that contained about 1700 oxycodone pills, the state police said. The front passenger, later identified as Jonathon Rivera, 31, of The Bronx, New York, was subsequently placed under arrest and taken to the state police barracks in Concord, where he was booked.

About $1,400 cash was found on Rivera and seized as evidence. He was held pending arraignment Tuesday in Ayer District Court on charges including conspiracy to violate drug laws and trafficking in heroin/morphine/opium.
