New England Council To Honor Mayor Menino

BOSTON (AP) — Retiring Boston Mayor Thomas Menino is picking up a prestigious honor from a regional business organization.

The New England Council plans to present Menino with a lifetime achievement award at its annual dinner in Boston on Wednesday.

The city's longest serving mayor will leave office at the end of the year. He's battled health problems in recent years.

The council, which bills itself as the nation's oldest regional business group, also plans to hand out several "New Englander of the Year" awards at the event.

Recipients will include Republican U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, Putnam Investments Chief Executive Officer Robert Reynolds, Newport Jazz Festival founder George Wein, and Kenneth Feinberg, administrator of the One Fund Boston charity that was created to help victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.
