Meryl Streep To Speak At UMass Lowell

BOSTON (CBS) --- Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep will speak at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell this winter.

Streep will take the stage in February as part of the chancellor's speaker series.

The actress is best known for her roles in "The Devil Wears Prada," and "Mamma Mia!"

"We are grateful to have someone of Meryl Streep's stature as the next participant in the UMass Lowell Chancellor's Speaker Series, which brings people at the top of their fields to the university to speak to students and the community while helping to raise funds for scholarships," said Chancellor Marty Meehan.

Last December, Stephen King took the stage and drew crowds of more than 3,000 people.

Streep's speech will be open to the public.

Streep has three new films in production, including the screen adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim musical "Into the Woods," and a fourth that will be in theaters later this year.

Tickets to her speaking engagement will be available soon on the UMass website.
