Police Investigate Apparent Drowning In East Boston

BOSTON (CBS) -- A 53-year-old Somerville woman is dead after an apparent drowning Tuesday morning.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's office says police responded to the docks near Piers Park in East Boston around 5:20 a.m.

Police say the woman had been living on a boat for the summer with her husband and allegedly fell overboard at some point early Tuesday.

Her husband jumped in the water to save her but CPR was unsuccessful.

An autopsy is expected to reveal her cause of death.

Piers Park is Massport property so the apparent drowning is being investigated by state police assigned to the DA's office.

Police have not released the woman's name.

The woman's husband was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for observation.
