Red Sox Middlebrooks, Napoli Named Co-AL Players Of The Week

BOSTON (CBS) -  Red Sox sluggers Will Middlebrooks and Mike Napoli were named the American League Co-Players of the Week on Monday, after having their way with opposing pitching all last week.

Middlebrooks hit .464 (13-for-28) with a double, four homers, nine RBIs and eight runs scored in seven games. He led all Major League hitters in hits, total bases (26) and was tied for first overall in RBIs and third in slugging percentage (.929).

The Red Sox third baseman is up to .245 for the season, with 15 homers and 41 RBIs in 79 games.

In his seven games last week, Napoli hit .476 (10-for-21) with two doubles, four homers, nine RBI and seven runs scored. The 31-year-old Napoli led all Major League hitters in batting average and slugging percentage (1.143), was tied for first overall in RBI and was second in total bases.

For the season, Napoli is second on the Red Sox with 25 home runs and 85 RBIs.

This marks the second time each player has won Player of the Week honors in their careers.

This is also the second time this season (and the fourth occurrence ever) that a pair of Red Sox teammates have shared the weekly honor, with Napoli and reliever Andrew Bailey winning Player of the Week honors in April.
