Donations, Sox Owner's Wife To Bring Devoted Fan To Fenway

BOSTON (CBS) --- A devoted Red Sox fan will get to take one last trip to Fenway Park thanks to the generosity of strangers and the wife of Red Sox owner John Henry.

Allen Munroe grew up in Andover but lives in Florida now.

His family says he's had two great loves in his life; his wife Norma and the Red Sox.

He lost Norma last spring and now he's facing some health problems of his own.

His family launched a campaign online to raise money to give him his first trip to Fenway in 50 years.

As soon as the online campaign launched, money began pouring in.

Then, Linda Pizzuti Henry learned about Munroe and sent the family a letter.

The letter said:

"Your grandfather sounds like an incredible man. Best of luck with your trip. I will happily provide game tickets, lunch at the game, and a private tour of the ballpark. Let me know the number of tickets needed - I have fantastic seats for you for this special journey."

Munroe's family is hoping everything works out and he gets to see the Sox vs. Yankees, one week from Saturday.

By Thursday afternoon, the online campaign had raised more than the $5,000 goal.

Munroe's family says the additional donations will be given to the Jimmy Fund.
