Phantom Gourmet: Romaine's In Northborough

NORTHBOROUGH (CBS) ----  A strip mall in Northborough may not be your first thought when it comes to great food.

But that's only because you haven't been to Romaine's.

For more than a decade, this warm and comfortable restaurant has served soul satisfying, creative American dishes, that have customers love.

And it's all thanks to owners Erin and Richard Romaine. Erin works the front of the house, which is divided into a comfortable dining room, and an always busy bar.

While Richard runs the kitchen, where this Louisiana native turns out dishes that always put flavor first.

"I always tell people, if you want to come here for the flavor, that's good, if you want to come here for the diet, we'll have to work on that one you know."

There are spicy House made Potato Chips... indulgent truffled parmesan fries... hearty Veal Bolognese... and Chicken Under a Brick, cooked in a wood fired oven right in the dining room.

"People always say 'what's your favorite dish?' personally they'll ask me.~ And I say 'the chicken dish.'~ And they always say, 'oh yeah, but I have chicken all the time.' And I say 'not like this you don't.'"

And the same is true for just about everything on Romaine's menu, and it's that fresh approach to the foods you love, that keeps everyone coming back.

"We wanted to be a restaurant where you could come for a special occasion, but also we have a lot of customers that come three, two, three, four nights a week, and that's what the goal is."
