Reported Sexual Assault In Brighton Prompts Community Alert

BOSTON (CBS) - Boston police have issued a community alert following a sexual assault in Brighton early Sunday morning.

Officials say a woman was trying to hail a cab in the area of Linden and Pratt Streets around 2 a.m. when a man driving a sedan stopped and offered her a ride to Cambridge.

Update: Boston Police Say Assault Claim Was Erroneous

The victim told police she was driven to a spot near the Harvard campus off of North Harvard Street on the Boston/Cambridge line, where the driver sexually assaulted her.

The suspect is described as Indian, 5' 8" tall with a medium build, medium complexion, in his mid-thirties, with short cropped dark hair and very crooked teeth.

He may have been wearing a black short-sleeved collared shirt. The victim say he had a thick accent.

Police say the vehicle may be a dark four door mid sized vehicle, and was not a licensed cab.

Officials have not said whether they believe the incident may be connected to another recent sexual assault involving a gypsy cab that began in South Boston and ended in Newton. The suspect in that case bears some similarities, but also a number of differences.

Boston police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
