Carney: Bulger Will Appeal
BOSTON (CBS/AP) --- Attorneys for James 'Whitey' Bulger say they will appeal Monday's verdicts.
Defense attorney J.W. Carney Jr. said the "lead issue" will be judge's ruling that prevented Bulger from using an immunity defense.

"Jim Bulger was very pleased with how the trial went," Carney said. "Mr. Bulger knew as soon as he was arrested that he was going to die behind the walls of a prison or on a gurney and injected with chemicals that would kill him. This trial has never been about Jim Bulger being set free."
Carney said Bulger wanted to make sure people saw the corruption in the government and the deals the government was willing to make with known criminals over the years.
The 83-year-old Bulger, who faces life in prison, showed no emotion as the verdicts in his racketeering case were read Monday afternoon in the federal courthouse in South Boston.
Bulger has claimed that a now-dead federal prosecutor gave him immunity from prosecution for his criminal activity in Southie.
U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz says she hopes the verdict marks "the end of an era that was very ugly in Boston's history."

Bulger was one of the nation's most-wanted fugitives after he fled Boston ahead of a 1994 indictment. He was captured in Santa Monica, Calif., in 2011.
