Police: Woman Stabbed Tuesday Night In South Boston

SOUTH BOSTON (CBS) - A Boston man is facing attempted murder charges after police say he attacked a woman in South Boston late Tuesday night.

Police say officers received a call at midnight Wednesday for a woman suffering stab wounds in the area of the 50 block on Gates Street.

The victim told police that a man had been following her and attacked her as she entered an apartment building. She was able to break free and escape from the suspect.

Boston police did not indicate whether she received medical treatment. Her condition was not known.

A few hours after the stabbing, police spotted a man matching the description that the victim had given them.

Officers arrested Edwin Alemany, 28, of Boston. Alemany is charged with Assault with Intent to Murder.

The attack happened close to the home of Amy Lord, who was kidnapped and murdered on Tuesday. Her body was found in Hyde Park. Police said in a news conference Wednesday that they were not ready to say whether they thought the attacks might be connected.

A third attack that took place in the area early Tuesday morning is also under investigation.
