Gordy Gronkowski: Rob's Injuries 'Definitely A Concern' But He's 'Not Going To Back Off'

BOSTON (CBS) -- Rob Gronkwowski has gone under the knife five times since last November, and he's likely to miss the start of the 2013 season as he recovers from his most recent back surgery.

It's been tough for Patriots fans to watch, but it's been even more difficult for Gronkowski's father, Gordy. He joined The Damon Amendolara Show to promote his new book, and he said that even t though it's difficult watching his son get hurt, he doesn't expect him to change the way he plays.

"It's a concern," Gordy said. "It's definitely a concern. You hate to see your son ever have that. The bottom line is, it's part of the game. And Rob, right now, he's been in the wrong spot at the wrong time. But the bottom line is how he plays his game. He plays crazy. He's reckless with his body and he's not afraid to throw it in there at any time. He plays a different style, but that's what makes him great. So do you tell him to back off? No, you can't. And Rob's not going to back off."

In fact, embracing pain has always been a part of Rob's life.

"The kid just loved pain," Gordy said of Rob's boyhood fights with his brothers. "It was crazy, his pain tolerance. And I never could get it, but he just loved it. They'd beat him up and then he'd get back up and go right back at it again"
