SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (AP) — Authorities are searching the Connecticut River for a missing 5-year-old girl who is believed to have fallen into the water in South Hadley.

State Police say that at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, local police asked for their help searching the water for the child.

Northwestern District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Mary Carey says the little girl had been at a residence on Cove Island Road before a report that she was missing.

State Police deployed divers and other personnel to assist local emergency responders with the search, which was continuing Sunday.
