MBTA Announces Stepped Up Security, Free Rides Home For July 4th

BOSTON (CBS) - The MBTA says it is planning a large security increase on July 4.

Transit police say in response to the Boston Marathon bombings, people can expect to see a significant change in the number of officers patrolling the public transportation system.

Random bag inspections will also be a part of the security measures.

The Red, Green, Orange and Blue Lines will all be running at peak levels starting at 2 p.m., and rides will be free after 9:30 p.m.

The schedule for outbound commuter rail trains will be pushed back so passengers will be able to make the trains following the fireworks on the Esplanade.
