Body Of Middle-Aged Man Found At Withrop Beach

WINTHROP (CBS) -- The body of a middle-aged man was pulled from the water Saturday afternoon at Winthrop Beach, public safety officials said.

The Winthrop Fire Department reported that a body was observed in the water, firefighters were dispatched to the beach, and the man's body was recovered near the area of Winthrop Shore Drive and Beacon Street at about 3 p.m.

The man's body was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, a fire department spokesman said, adding there were no details available about the circumstances of the man's death.

Winthrop Police and State Police assigned to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office are investigating the death, according to a prepared statement from the DA. There were no immediate signs of trauma but an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of death.

At this early stage of the investigation, the death does not appear suspicious, the DA's office said, adding no identification was found on the man's remains.
