State Trooper Injured By Alleged OUI Driver In Saugus

SAUGUS, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts state trooper suffered minor injuries when his cruiser was struck by an alleged drunken driver on Route 1 in Saugus.

Police said in a statement that the trooper was conducting a traffic stop in the southbound lanes just after 1 a.m. Friday.

The trooper was still in his cruiser when it was struck from behind by another car.

The trooper reported neck and back pain and was transported to the hospital. The cruiser sustained heavy rear end damage.

The driver of the car that hit the cruiser was determined to be operating under the influence of alcohol.

No names were immediately released.
