Vehicle Strikes, Kills 80-Year-Old Woman In Downtown Boston

BOSTON (CBS) - An 80-year-old woman died Sunday after a vehicle struck her near the intersection of Stuart and Charles streets, police said.

At about 6:23 a.m. Sunday, officers were dispatched to the downtown intersection after a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. When the officers arrived, Boston EMS was already tending to the injured woman, who had suffered apparent head trauma, police said.

The woman, who police did not identify, was taken to Tufts Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Officers interviewed the driver of the vehicle involved in the incident. The driver remained at the crash scene after the woman was hit.

Detectives assigned to the Boston Police Department's Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating the incident. No violations or charges had been issued as of Sunday night.
