Essex D.A. Looking Into 'Unexplained Death' Of 2-Year-Old Girl In Haverhill

HAVERHILL (CBS) - The Essex District Attorney's Office is looking into the "sudden and unexplained death" of a two-year-old girl over the weekend.

The girl's father told investigators he put her down for a nap Sunday afternoon and later found her unresponsive in her bed.

EMT's responded to a 911 call and the girl was rushed to Merrimack Valley Hospital where she died at 2:30 p.m.

The medical examiner will perform an autopsy to find the cause of death.

"Please note that it is protocol for the Essex District Attorney's Office to conduct a comprehensive investigation for every sudden or unattended death within the County. The goal of the investigation is to determine the facts and circumstances of the fatality and ultimately decide whether criminal charges are warranted," Essex District Attorney spokeswoman Carrie Kimball Monahan said in a statement Monday.

No names have been released in the investigation.
