Embattled Boston Fire Chief Resigns
BOSTON (CBS) -- Boston Fire Chief Steve Abraira has resigned.
Commissioner Roderick Fraser has appointed Chief of Operations John Hasson, a 40-year-veteran, as the acting Chief of Department.
Abraira's resignation, announced of the department's Twitter page, comes just a few weeks after 13 Boston deputy fire chiefs signed a letter of "no confidence" in Abraira's handling of the Boston Marathon bombings.
His deputies label him the "ghost fire chief" in the letter to Boston Mayor Tom Menino.
In addition to the marathon attacks, the deputies said at a 6-alarm East Boston fire, Abraira was seen photographing himself by the burning building.
They also cited the NSTAR transformer explosion and said Abraira failed to communicate.
