Mayor Menino Receives Honorary Degree From Harvard

BOSTON (CBS) -- Mayor Tom Menino was awarded an honorary degree from Harvard University.

The longest-serving mayor of Boston, dropped out of night school at Boston College in the 1960's.

He later earned his bachelor's degree after his daughter graduated in 1988.

Thursday, Menino got an honorary doctorate of law.

He told WBZ NewsRadio 1030, he was humbled at the moment.

"I was just thinking about my dad," Menino said. "The first thing I did when I was elected to city council was I went back to college and got my degree."

Menino announced in March, he would not seek re-election amid health problems.
