Mass. Man Charged In NH Sex Extortion Case

SALEM, N.H. (AP) — A Massachusetts man faces charges for allegedly trying to extort thousands of dollars from a New Hampshire man after they had a sexual encounter.

William Gray of Springfield is being held on $50,000 bail a charge of attempted extortion.

Police say Gray and a Salem, N.H., man met at Gray's apartment in April after the two met online. Gray is accused of later telling the man he would tell his wife about the encounter unless he paid for $3,000 worth of furniture.

Officials say the victim later went to police after Gray allegedly demanded he put $2,400 on a prepaid debit card.

At his arraignment in Salem, Gray said he was only seeking to be repaid for money he had loaned the man for drug purchases.
