State Police Release Aerial Photos Of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Hiding In Watertown Boat

WATERTOWN (CBS) - Massachusetts State Police released several photos Saturday showing Boston Marathon bombings suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev hiding in a boat in a Watertown backyard where he was captured.

Shortly after a neighbor realized Tsarnaev may be hiding in his boat and called police, the State Police Air Wing used thermal imaging to confirm he was under the winterizing tarp.

"Our helicopter had actually detected the subject in the boat. We have a FLIR (forward looking infrared device) on that helicopter. It picked up the heat signal of that individual," Massachusetts State Police Col. Timothy Alben said Friday night at a news conference.

Additional State Police photos show an armored vehicle tearing the tarp off of the boat.

Tsarnaev eventually surrendered to police.

He was last reported to be in serious condition at Beth Israel Hospital.
