Bombing Suspect's Friend: 'Just A Normal American Kid'

BOSTON (CBS) - A high school friend of Boston Marathon bombing suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev described them both as athletes who were into normal things.

The man told WBZ-TV that both brothers attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin Academy, where they wrestled and boxed.

"Just a normal American kid," the high school friend said of 19-year-old Dzhokhar, with whom he attended Rindge and Latin.

The man said he was stunned when he saw pictures of his friend and brother on television.

He described 26-year-old Tamerlan as "a two-times golden gloves champion," who was "asked many times to go pro, but he kept declining."

Dzhokhar he said was, "a wrestler that won many awards," including a college scholarship.

Contrary to some reports from authorities, this friend said both suspects lived in the area for a number of years.
