Thousands Turn Out For BAA 5K Race

BOSTON (CBS) - Before runners hit the pavement to run the Boston Marathon Monday, some runners started with the fifth annual Boston Athletic Association 5K race Sunday.

Dejen Gebremeskel of Ethiopia was the top finisher for the men.

Kim Smith of New Zealand was the top finisher for the women. Smith trains in Rhode Island.

Later Sunday morning, students from communities along the race route will run a thousand meter race.

There will be a mile race for high school students and then men and women's professional mile races.
