Sore Hamstring Sidelines Struggling Hanrahan

BOSTON (AP) — Red Sox closer Joel Hanrahan is expected to miss a few days with a sore right hamstring.

Hanrahan has struggled in his first season with Boston since being acquired from Pittsburgh. In his last three appearances, he's allowed six earned runs, five hits, four walks and three homers with two strikeouts in 1 2-3 innings.

In Saturday's 2-1 win over Tampa Bay in 10 innings he walked the two batters he faced. In an 8-5 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night, he entered in the ninth inning with a 5-3 lead then allowed five runs.

The plan is for Hanrahan to rest "the next couple of days," manager John Farrell said before Sunday's game with the Rays. "We've got to let this settle down first before we get him back into game availability."
