Boston Cab Operators Go After California Company

BOSTON (CBS) - Two Boston cab companies have filed a 35-page lawsuit against an online upstart.

Uber Technologies of San Francisco has set up an app to operate a car-for-hire service that cab companies say violates every regulation in the book.

"We have a lot of laws designated to protect consumers," says Brett Barenholtz, CEO of Boston cab. "Every taxi in the city has certain equipment in it for safety protections for drivers and for passengers."

Brett says Uber Technologies is circumventing those regulations.

Michael Pao from Uber says they have not seen the lawsuit, but are operating legally.

"Uber has had other instances of lawsuits and other challenges. In any city we enter, there's been a steady drumbeat of pro-innovation wins for Uber," according to Pao.
