A cab driver called police shortly before 4 a.m. saying he was bringing his fares to Quincy Medical Center with gunshot wounds.

According to police, the cab was stopped at Arlington and Brook Streets when the two men in the back seat were shot.

"The yellow cab pulled up with four passengers in the backseat," Captain John Dougan told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Karen Twomey. "While they were waiting to pay the cab driver, an unknown perpetrator came up and shot through the window and door, striking two of the individuals in the backseat."

One was hit in the stomach, the other in the elbow. There is no word yet on their conditions.  Both appeared to be in their early 20's.

Police say the incident does not appear to be random and they believe the shooter and the victims knew each other.  There have been no arrests.

The cab driver was also treated at the hospital but police said he was not shot.
