Remains Found On Maine Island Where Students Went Missing In December

KENNEBUNPORT, Maine (AP) — Human remains have been found on an island off Kennebunkport in the area where two students at a Maine boatbuilding school went missing nearly eight weeks ago.

Kennebunkport Police Chief Craig Sanford said the remains were discovered at 5 p.m. Sunday. They've been taken to the state medical examiner's office.

Sanford says it's not known if the remains are connected to the disappearance of two young men who were last seen at a late-night party Dec. 20.

In the ensuing search, officials found clothing belonging to 21-year-old Zachary Wells of Burlington, Vt., and 23-year-old Prescott Wright of Barnstable, Mass., but didn't find their bodies. Wells and Wright were students at The Landing School in Arundel.

Sanford said it could take several days to identify the remains.
