"Living Earth" natural foods store started selling the "Feed The Revolution" bars around Christmas.

Owner Frank Phelan says he gets them from a Utah company called Chapul.

The crickets are raised in Utah and ground into a fine powder said to be high in protein and eco-friendly because they don't require a lot of water.

Phelan says they haven't exactly caught on yet but he thinks they will take some getting used to.

"It's actually a flour so you're not running into pieces of legs or wings," Phelan said. "Insects and crickets in particular, are very good at converting plant material into animal protein much more efficiently than beef or pork would do."

The bars come in chocolate peanut butter flavor and a "Thai" version with coconut, ginger and lime. The Living Earth store is the only New England location currently selling the bars.
