Store Owners Hope Last Minute Shoppers Make Up For Sluggish Season

BOSTON (CBS) - Time is running out if you haven't finished all your holiday shopping.

According to Consumer Reports, two thirds of Americans wait until the last minute.

At South Shore Mall in Braintree, the stores were jammed Saturday with people trying to get those last minute gifts.

Procrastinators flooded malls across New England this weekend and stores are hoping the late-comers make up for a sluggish holiday season.

Consumer Reports says 17 million Americans will still be shopping on Christmas Eve. That's a segment of the population retailers are hoping to capitalize on with extended hours.

Toys R Us started an 88 hour stretch Friday morning. Target is staying open until midnight Sunday.
And Macy's is open for 48 hours straight this weekend at most locations.
