Puppy Missing Since September Found In Melrose

SALEM (CBS) -A puppy that went missing in September has been found.

The puppy, named Bailey, was rescued in June from Puerto Rico and brought to Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem. Known as a "santo" meaning street dog, Bailey was very skittish and ran from his adoptive home in Saugus on Sept. 17.

Since September, Bailey has been spotted in the Saugus area and dozens of volunteers searched for him.

On Dec. 5, Melrose Animal Control received a call about a stray dog living in a neighborhood near Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

A woman nearby had been feeding the dog and the shelter believes he was living under a broken fence leaning against a wall.

A rescue team trapped the dog and brought him back to Northeast Animal Shelter where he tested positive for Lyme disease and was placed in a Lynnfield foster home.

Shelter staff says he is doing very well in his new foster home, and is looking for a new forever home.

Staff at Northeast Animal Shelter said the circumstances did not make going back to his first home possible.
