Mass. GOP Loses Ground On Beacon Hill

BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts Republicans will hold even fewer seats in the state Legislature in the next two-year session.

After more than doubling their numbers in the House two years ago, the GOP lost a net four seats as a result of Tuesday's voting and will have 29 members in the 160-member House when lawmakers reconvene in January.

Three Republican incumbents were defeated: Rep. George Ross of Attleboro, Rep. Richard Bastien of Gardner and Rep. Steven Levy of Marlborough.

The GOP will maintain four seats in the 40-member Senate, after its four incumbents were re-elected but no challengers were able to dislodge incumbent Democrats. Three open seats were also won by Democrats.

The legislative results congressional races, as Democrats won all nine of the state's U.S. House seats and Democrat Elizabeth Warren defeated incumbent Republican Sen. Scott Brown.
