Mailer Accuses NH State Rep. Of Being Drunk On The Job

EXETER, NH (CBS) - Mailings accusing New Hampshire State Representative Matt Quandt of being drunk on the job landed in mailboxes across Exeter the day before the election.

"This is one of the sickest things I've seen," said Lee Quandt, Matt's father.

Both of the Quandts are long-time state representatives.

"It's really pathetic, these people, and I refer to them as domestic terrorists because that's what they are, if you don't do exactly what they want they target you with stuff like this," said Lee Quandt.

Exeter voters Joyce Dow and Pamela Gjettum were among the many who received the suspicious campaign materials.

"When I did see this I was very upset," said Dow. "I just don't think it's fair that something like that could have been published."

The Attorney General's office tells WBZ-TV it is investigating. The group on the mailer--Citizens Against Drunk Legislators--is not registered with the state and there is no return address, which are possible violations of election law and could lead to misdemeanors.

The mailers accuse Matt Quandt of appearing drunk during House sessions. It reads 'we deserve a State Rep. who doesn't drink on the job'.

"They're alleging that Matt was drunk and missed votes," said Lee Quandt. "Matt wasn't drunk and maybe he missed about the same votes I did because he was taking care of me when I had an aortic heart valve replaced."

Both of the Quandts lost their bid for re-election.

Matt Quandt was out of town Friday and couldn't be reached for comment.
