His Beard Was Fake! 'Bearded Bandit' Serial Bank Robbery Suspect Busted In Seekonk

SEEKONK (CBS) - Police in Seekonk have captured a man they believe may be the so-called Bearded Bandit.

Nicknamed for his dark beard, which turned out to be a fake disguise, the serial bank robber managed to elude federal, state, and local authorities for more than six months.

Officers arrested the man, who they have not identified, at the Motel 6 in Seekonk on a drug charge. The motel is less than a half mile from the Bank of America that the bearded bandit robbed back in February.

Police sources say the man was clean shaven at the time of his arrest and a fake beard was recovered in his hotel room.

The bearded bandit is a suspect in as many as nine bank robberies in Massachusetts and Rhode Island in the last seven months, beginning with the February 23rd robbery at the Bank of America in Seekonk.

There had been a $5,000 reward offered for the bandit's arrest.
