Boston Police Officer Hurt In West Roxbury Cruiser Crash

WEST ROXBURY (CBS) - A Boston police officer was hurt in a cruiser crash on the VFW Parkway in West Roxbury late Monday morning.

The police officer was taken to the hospital shortly after the crash.

Police told WBZ-TV the officer was heading to assist an off-duty officer who was calling for help near the corner of the parkway and Gardner Street after someone reportedly pulled a gun on him.

The cruiser crashed into a Volvo at the intersection of Lagrange Street and the parkway.

The front ends of both vehicles were heavily damaged.

The officer, whose name has not been released, was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital to be treated for bumps and bruises.

A woman and a four-year-old child were in the Volvo.  They were not hurt, but the child was taken to a hospital for observation, just as a precaution.

There is no other information is available at this point in the investigation.

The parkway was closed briefly for the cleanup.
