The shakeup comes after independent investigators found credible evidence that Cummings made offensive comments to his former secretary, Jeanne Mooney.

"I am deeply disappointed, I was shocked to read the allegations," says Mayor Warren. "That's why I made the decision this morning to place the chief on administrative paid leave and begin the process of removing him from office."

The city is expected to hold a hearing on his possible termination within the next month.

Captain Howard Mintz has been named as his temporary replacement.

Mooney is also on paid leave, and facing charges that she stole $600 from the department and destroyed checks. She is scheduled to be arraigned next month.
