Saugus Drowning Victim Identified

SAUGUS (CBS) – The victim of an apparent drowning at the Breakheart Reservation in Saugus was identified Monday.

Thirty-four-year-old Luis Espinoza of Medford was swimming with friends in the pond around 7 p.m. Sunday when he suddenly had trouble and went under in a section that's about eight feet deep.

"Espinoza's two friends attempted to swim to him but got tired and had to turn around," Essex District Attorney Spokesman Steve O'Connell said in a statement.

The friends called 911 for help.

At the same time a jogger saw Espinoza in the water. He jumped in and helped firefighters pull him out.

Espinoza was rushed to Wakefield-Melrose Hospital where he died.

O'Connell said foul play is not suspected.
