Mass. Man Treated For EEE Is State's First Human Case Of 2012

BOSTON (CBS) – Health officials are reporting the state's first human case of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE).

The victim, who has been treated and released from the hospital, is a man in his sixties from the Metrowest region.

He became ill on July 28.

Health officials noted that the victim had recently traveled out of state to the Mid-Atlantic region, where reported receiving a significant number of mosquito bites.

Officials say the location where the man acquired EEE is unclear.

They also noted that EEE has not been detected this year in any mosquitoes in the area where he lives.
