Ortiz Receives Injection For Right Achilles

BOSTON (CBS) - Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz said he felt better after receiving an injection Monday afternoon to help the pain and swelling in his right Achilles strain.

"I don't feel my foot right now and that means I feel good," Ortiz said following Boston's 9-2 win over the Texas Rangers Monday night. "It's going to be there for six to eight hours, but it's supposed to get things better. I guess I have to give it a couple of days to see what the reaction is going to be like and go from there."

"He felt great," said manager Bobby Valentine. "He said he could have played tonight on the bench, but who knows how long that's going to last?"

Although Ortiz will take the next few days off, the team does not consider the latest treatment a setback. The lone Red Sox All-Star this season has been on the DL since July 16 and was eligible to be activated on August 1.

Ortiz said he is hoping to return to the lineup during Boston's four-game series with the Indians in Cleveland, which starts on Thursday.

Ortiz is batting .316 with 23 homers — both tops on the team — and 58 RBI this season.
