Bat Bites Brockton Police Officer

BROCKTON (CBS) – A Brockton police officer was bitten by a bat while at the animal control office Friday night.

Animal control officer Darren Hand says the bat was near a door when another officer walked in.

The bat swooped down and bit the other officer.

Officer Hand says the officer who was bitten is expected to be fine.

Brockton animal control officers were busy on Friday night, receiving several calls for bats in people's homes.

Officer Hand says long stretches of hot and muggy weather typically means that bats become more active.

Because of that, he says the increase in calls is not uncommon.
