Arrest Leads Foxboro Police To Eight Powerful Homemade Bombs

FOXBORO (CBS) - Police officers arresting an Easton man on a warrant say they found eight homemade bombs in his Foxboro hotel room Friday.

Foxboro police say Steven Mudge was hiding out at the America's Best Value Inn on Washington Street because he had two outstanding warrants over a string of house robberies.

A tipster told police where they could find him.

Officers were staking out the hotel and spotted an acquaintance of Mudge entering his room.

When officers went in to arrest him, they discovered the explosives in a plastic bag in plain sight.

More than 20 guests and staff members were evacuated from the hotel as the bomb squad removed the explosives.

State Police say the explosives were powerful enough that had they gone off, they would have killed everyone in the hotel room and would have leveled a good portion of the hotel.
