BOSTON (CBS) - Do you believe in aliens?

A new survey by the National Geographic Channel says 36 percent of Americans (80 million people) are positive that UFOs exist, while 1 in 10 people say they've seen one.

Seventeen percent of those polled don't believe UFOs exist and 48% aren't sure.

The survey also found that 79 percent of people believe the government is hiding the existence of UFOs.

In the event that aliens actually visit Earth, 22% of those surveyed would try to befriend the alien, while 15% said they would run away. Of the remaining group, 13% said they would lock their doors, while only 2% said they would try to inflict bodily harm on the alien.

By the way, the poll also said Barack Obama would do a better job of handling an alien invasion than Mitt Romney.

The survey was released in advance of the channel's new show, Chasing UFO's, which premieres this Friday.
