The driver’s license plate was left at the scene. Officers said they later tracked down the driver at about 3:30 a.m. on Main Street in Falmouth.

Twenty-two-year-old Angelica Barroso of West Yarmouth was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident. Police say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

Barroso told police she thought she had hit an animal.
